Actor-singer Rita, in turn, is no doubt used to the fanfare of public appearances with her husband.
But when she and Tom were out in New York City on Wednesday, things were noisier than usual.

In a video circulating online, Tom and Rita were initially typically calm as they walked among the crowd desperately trying to take selfies and videos with Tom.
Last night’s shot of Tom Hanks, dealing with some domineering fans👇Imagine pissing off Tom Hanks! I will never forgive myself 😂
When Tom walked a few steps behind his wife, when some fans seemed too preoccupied with the actor, they didn’t know where they were going and bumped into each other – tripping Rita as a result.
Rita can be heard screaming and turning to face the crowd as she loses her footing, telling them: “Stop it!”
Tom’s protective side also came up, with the star eager to check if Rita was okay before scolding fans for her actions.
Tom yelled to the crowd: “My wife?! Fuck my ass! Hit my wife?!”
He and Rita then walked into a waiting car, and the group mumbled an apology as they dealt with what had just happened.
Needless to say, the video went viral and sparked a major discussion about the way celebrities are treated in public.
The overwhelming majority supported Tom’s response as they slammed the group for not treating the couple like humans.

“If I got yelled at by Tom Hanks, I might cry. I’m repeating this clip to see who’s at fault. You shouldn’t bother celebrities or get so close to them for an involuntary selfie,” another wrote. Others agreed: “If you make Tom Hanks mad at you. Well, you must be a real jerk. It’s one thing to be excited to see a celebrity, but to invade their space and nearly trip over their loved ones is Another madness!”

“Tom Hanks is absolutely right. Celebrity or not, everyone is entitled to personal space and when you step into that space and cause Tom Hanks’ wife to trip, you should be put in your place and ashamed ,” the fourth added.
Tom Hanks is absolutely right. Celebrity or not, everyone is entitled to a personal space, and when you step into that space and cause Tom Hanks’ wife to trip, you deserve to be put in your place and ashamed.
Others have just been blown away by Tom’s character transformation, with many admitting they would be filled with “shame” if they were the ones who angered the notoriously friendly star.

The social media user summed it up best on Twitter: “Just a public service announcement on behalf of anyone who has a face-to-face with a celebrity. Don’t be a jerk or be overly aggressive. Treat them with respect and the way you want to be treated.” They talk like they talk to their parents. @tomhanks deserves the same curtsey.”
