According to foreign media reports, Apple is preparing to release a series of new devices between this fall and early 2023 Bloombergof Mark Gurman. According to reports, what Gurman refers to as a “large number” of products will include four iPhone 14 devices, a new set of iPads, three Apple Watches, several M2/M3 upgraded Macs, a pair of updated AirPods Pro headphones, a new HomePod and An upgraded Apple TV model.
Let’s break down these predictions.
Although Apple announced two new Macs with the flagship M2 processor at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) earlier this month, Gurman expects to find the chip and its variants in several other devices. This includes the M2 Mac mini, M2 Pro Mac mini, M2 Pro / M2 Max 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pros, and M2 Ultra / M2 Extreme Mac Pro. Of course, there is also the long-rumored Apple Mixed Reality headset, return It is expected to be equipped with an M2 chip. If that wasn’t overwhelming enough, Gurman said Apple’s M3 processor is already in development and will likely appear in next year’s 13- and 15-inch MacBook Air laptops.
We already know that Apple is gearing up to launch the iPhone 14 this fall, and Gurman’s report rounds up all the rumors for the past year or so. On the one hand, only the Pro and Pro Max models will reportedly receive the new, more powerful A16 chip, as well as support for always-on-display. The iPhone 14 Pro models should also feature a 48-megapixel camera sensor, a new notch with a “pill-shaped cutout” for Face ID, and a hole-punch selfie camera. Gurman said the standard iPhone 14 will have the A15 chip that came with the iPhone 13 and replace the Mini model with a 6.7-inch model.
On the iPad side, Gurman’s report suggests that Apple will launch 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models with the M2 later this year, in addition to a 14- to 15-inch iPad Pro “next year or two”. Big iPad.Gurman also backed up earlier rumors 9to5Macwhich suggests the new entry-level iPad will feature an A14 chip, 5G, and USB-C connectivity.
Apple also expects to release three new Apple Watches this fall: the standard Watch Series 8, the new SE, and a more “rugged” watch aimed at “extreme sports” folks. Gurman pointed out that while the S8 chip in the upcoming Watch Series 8 will offer the same level of performance as the previous S7 and S6 chips, next year’s Watch will reportedly feature an upgraded processor. Gurman also expects Apple to discontinue the Series 3 this fall in favor of the new SE, which may also feature an S8 processor — a leap from the S5 chip that ships with the 2020 SE model.
Apple didn’t have much to say about tvOS at WWDC, though, Gurman said the company should show off a new Apple TV this fall with an A14 chip and more RAM. Gurman noted that this sets up the device for “extra gaming features” we can see in tvOS 16.
Apple is also gearing up to launch an updated HomePod — but probably not until next year. According to Gurman, the upcoming HomePod will have a similar size and performance level to the original HomePod released in 2018. It is expected to feature an S8 chip, an updated display, and possibly support for “multi-touch capabilities.”
The AirPods Pro earbuds will also be upgraded, with Gurman predicting a new chip and improved sound. Hopefully that means support for lossless audio, supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had rumored earlier this year.
