Phone(1) Design announced prior to launch

While we wait for the full unveiling of the Nothing Phone (1), we now have our first look at the upcoming Android phone’s much-touted “transparent” design.

In typical Carl Pei fashion, nearly every little detail was drip-drenched ahead of the official keynote to reinforce the hype surrounding this new Android entrant. While the internals are not yet known, since there’s nothing we’ll see the first official images of the Phone (1) design – with an extra parrot.

[Update 06/16]: No one hosted a special event in Basel, Switzerland, where selected media and online influencers were able to witness the device for the first time. This includes a demo of the light bar on the back panel, which appears to be covered by a thin glass panel shown by the Swiss publication Dascan Lorenz Kellerwho was able to discover more details about the device’s design – you can see it below:

The camera nodules protrude in a similar way to the iPhone series, combined with the flat sides, and even the button placement is very similar to Apple’s 12 and 13 series devices.

Share in multiple posts on Instagram, TwitterAnd the nothing.tech site, the Nothing Phone (1) has a design that definitely has an iPhone-like box, but it’s certainly not the revolutionary or groundbreaking look some would have you believe before its official release.

“Bold”, “warm” and “full of soul” are certainly not the descriptors we use to describe this predominantly white industrial backplane. However, there is an interesting design choice, as the Nothing Phone (1) comes with a glowing bar. It’s unclear if these are just reflective or will use battery power to emit light.

According to the initial teaser glyph, you could see a wireless charging pad or coil with a dual-camera setup in the upper left corner. It’s hard to really call a “transparent” design a Nothing Phone (1) when few of its internal components are actually visible. It appears that many of the internals (including the battery) are hidden behind what amounts to a white back panel, which we think is a glass covering.

No one has posted on YouTube detailing the story behind Phone (1), and the first episode is full of free trailers. The design of Nothing Phone (1) is vague from start to finish, but could be ahead of any leaks, and the company has decided to reveal the biggest talking point nearly a month before its keynote.

Is it hot? Let us know what you think of the design in the comments section below.
