Pet rabbit stolen from local florist

Horsehead, N.Y. (WETM) — A terminally ill pet rabbit was stolen in the middle of the night from Turk’s Produce and Flower Market Company.

The thieves drove a van into their driveway around 2:00 a.m. and were caught by the store’s surveillance cameras. Surveillance footage showed thieves entering and stealing their rabbit, Jupiter, along with two crates, a bag of rabbit food, and several hanging baskets.

Jupiter’s Empty Cage

Jupiter is currently taking the drugs he needs to survive.

“If he doesn’t get the right medicine, he will be dead within five days,” said Ted Ostrand, owner of the Turkish Produce and Flower Market Company.

Ostrander is offering a $500 cash reward if the rabbit is returned within the next few days.

“We’re not going to file charges, but if he doesn’t come back in the next few days, I’m going to throw away the $500 reward because there’s no reason,” Ostrand said, referring to Jupiter’s life five-day period.

The rabbit belonged to Ostrander’s daughter, who bottle-fed Jupiter from birth.

“She was very sad about it and wanted the rabbit back, so we made sure it didn’t die,” Ostrand said.

According to Ostrander, veterinarians diagnosed Jupiter with a stomach problem that required his daughter to give him medication three times a day.

If you know of the rabbit’s whereabouts, Ostrand demanded that he be returned to the Turkish Produce and Flower Market Company.
