It is said that EA may be working on a brand new Marvel game. It’s unclear which Marvel IP will have its own game, but fans can speculate on who might be in the game in the future.
Marvel has had many success stories in adapting video games of its famous comic book characters, just look at Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales. All three games can be found in the PlayStation Plus Extra games list for PS Plus Premium and Extra subscribers. But according to a new rumor, maybe another Marvel IP will join the trio of great games, and no, it’s not Marvel’s Midnight Sun.
renew: The source doesn’t mention any platforms and has adjusted accordingly, although it’s safe to assume – if the game exists and ever releases – PS5 will be minimal.
Could this Marvel IP be centered around iconic characters like Scarlet Witch and Doctor Strange?
According to Tech4Gamers, on the Xbox Era podcast, well-known industry expert Nick Baker talked about EA’s new Marvel IP. However, he didn’t reveal much about what the IP is, or which EA studios could be involved in the project.
“Out of nowhere, this new source sent me a DM the other day, saying: ‘Oh, EA is making a Marvel game.’ I can’t [say more] – since he mentioned what it might be about (which IP it would be about) – I can’t even give a clue. I’m not good at giving clues without revealing things. “
No platform is mentioned, but it’s safe to assume current-gen is on the desktop. Nick Baker also pointed out that he should have spread the rumor through some other sources before noticing it on the podcast. It’s also worth mentioning that since EA hasn’t officially announced these things, take them with a grain of salt, whether or not Baker is known for his frequent stings.
If this information turns out to be true, Marvel may have another winning game, like most games released recently – let’s forget Marvel’s Avengers? It’s a bit concerning to see EA join the project, as they don’t have the best track record in gaming in recent years – anyone at Anthem? But let’s not forget it takes two and the Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order success story proves that EA can still knock it out.
If it is indeed real, it will be interesting to see which EA studio ends up working on this huge project. EA Montreal or EA Vancouver could be candidates to lead this unknown Marvel IP; however, it could be more interesting if an EA studio like BioWare came to power. Imagine a Marvel game with the same deep lore and interaction we’ve seen from games like Mass Effect Legendary Edition. Obviously BioWare is very busy with the next Dragon Age game, which we now know is titled Dragon Age Dreadwolf and the next Mass Effect game, which everyone just calls Mass Effect 4 now. So the chances of BioWare working on this project are very low, but we can hope.
With so little information, we were really kept in the dark. For now, all we can do is hope that EA makes some sort of announcement in the near future. I’m not holding my breath for this to happen anytime soon. If that’s true, I’d love to play a game about Scarlet Witch, or, my favorite Marvel character, Erica. Like the Deadpool PS4 game, this could be Marvel’s R-rated heavy hitter.
Marvel is currently at an all-time high in the film industry, with box office smash hits left and right, and center. It makes sense that Marvel would want to capitalize on its success and continue to drive the momentum, so creating more video games is a brilliant idea. What do you think of this rumor? Which Marvel character would you like to see in their own game? Also, let me know how much you love Garus in the comments below!
