The problem is that the OP’s friend suggested they go on a date with her old friend. The OP agreed – they fell in love with the man right away, but what they certainly didn’t like was the stuffy nose from the first minute of communication.

OP is allergic to cats and they immediately suspect the man has one in his home
The OP immediately decided to clarify – yes, that’s right, the man has a cat in the house. Realizing how painful the aftermath of an allergy can be, and how difficult it is to keep treating it, the OP decided to make a tough decision on the go.

The OP is trying to explain that they don’t want to start a relationship due to allergy issues
They explain to the man that it’s best for the two of them to move on and not communicate – despite the obvious mutual liking, since the OP doesn’t want to be on drugs and live with men every day.

The man is very frustrated and tries to ask the OP to give him a chance
We have to admit, the man was very upset and said that modern medicine handles allergies well, and in general this is not a good reason not to be in a relationship with him. To this, the OP objected that they just wanted to be honest with him – after all, their relationship is probably unlikely to progress because of his cat.

OP just paid and left, but their friends called them slightly offended bastards
Seeing that the man started to insist and gradually lost his temper, the OP simply called the waiter and asked for a separate order. When they told their mutual friend about it, she just claimed that the OP was completely wrong – firstly, she offended a very nice person, and secondly, the cat wasn’t the problem. Something will always happen in its later life…

However, most commenters support the OP as some of them are familiar with allergies themselves
However, the commenters, many of whom know allergies firsthand, mostly support the OP – after all they really try to be honest with men and it’s better to say no right away than to suffer for a few months and then break up. .
It was recalled that once in place of the OP, they still entered the relationship and their decision ended up being some kind of masochism. Anyway, the general consensus is that, to be honest, the OP did the right thing – and this guy and their friends mostly weren’t quite right.
Frankly, we have our own allergies – to posts without comments, so we’d love your take on this story, or even better – your own story. In the end, any narrative about one’s own experience becomes more relevant and interesting.
