Dallas Mavericks’ 2021-22 season is over very funny. This isn’t always fun, in fact, it starts out pretty weird. Luka Doncic looks like the ultimate boss in an Olympic video game, and we all hope he shows up in good shape and ready to beat the team. He didn’t, and things felt risky when the Mavs started the season badly to mediocre.
Then COVID hit the Mavericks, along with a lingering ankle injury for Luka Doncic. Watching a Dallas Mavericks basketball game for most of December is neither fun nor entertaining. Things bottomed out in a late December loss to the Sacramento Kings. Then, things took a turn. After turning over in 2022, the Mavericks will only lose 12 more times in the regular season.
When Tim Hardaway suffered what would eventually become a season-ending injury, the Mavericks moved to replace his scoring punch with Spencer Dinwiddie by trading off what was once considered a Kristaps Porzingis stone. something to do this. While we all initially thought it was a step back, the Mavericks moved on.
They roll around. And, despite Luka Doncic’s calf injury in the final game of the regular season, the Mavericks went straight to the Jazz, then the Suns, before being eventually stopped by the Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference finals.
It’s been a wonderful, weird, very interesting season. Considering our staff kinda wants to fast-forward to the playoffs, I don’t think I can imagine a more interesting and varied season with the Mavs going down the path of improvement. Progress isn’t a straight line, but once Dallas found their pace, they really worked hard.
