Lil Nas X expresses his frustration after being nominated for the Zero Gamble award in a series of now-deleted tweets: ‘I just feel black gays have to fight to be seen in this world’
Lil Nas X was quick to express his disappointment at not being nominated for the 2022 BET Awards on social media…though he was quick to erase those nominations.
The 23-year-old musician has won two Grammys with 11 nominations since his debut in 2020, though he lost to Roddy Ricch in 2020 with only one BET nomination for Best New Artist.
Shortly after the nomination was announced, the rapper (born Montero La Marhill) tweeted on Wednesday, calling for the awards ceremony before deleting his tweet.

The openly gay singer also responded to a fan who asked him why he thought he should be nominated.
“idk was probably the top 3 hits of the last year and a critically acclaimed album…I think that should help me,” he said.

He went on to talk about how black gays are always hard to see.
“Even so, it doesn’t even have to be nominated by me, I just feel like black gays have to fight to be seen in this world, even as we get into the top mfs trying to pretend we’re invisible,” he added.
Lil Nas X broke into the music industry with Old Town Road, selling more than 18 million records worldwide and breaking long-term Billboard records.

The song topped the Hot 100 singles chart for 19 consecutive weeks, breaking the records held by Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s One Sweet Day and Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s Despacito, both of which remained on the chart for 16 consecutive weeks on top.
The song was also nominated for a Grammy for Record of the Year and won Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Best Music Video for its remix with Billy Ray Cyrus.
He released his debut album, “Montero,” in September 2021, which peaked at number two on the Billboard Albums Chart and was nominated for a Grammy for Album of the Year.

Taraji P. Henson will host the 2022 BET Awards on Sunday, June 26 at 8pm ET at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
