Apple’s new M2 chip is 20 percent faster than the M1 chip in multi-core performance, according to leaked M2 benchmarks for the upcoming 13-inch MacBook Pro spotted on Geekbench today.
The M2 runs at 3.49GHz, while the M1 runs at 3.2GHz and has a single-core score of 1919, which is about 12% faster than the M1 13-inch MacBook Pro’s 1707 single-core score. The M2’s multi-core score of 8928 is about 20% higher than the 7419 score of the M1 model.
Apple says the “M2” chip is 18% faster than the “M1”, so the Geekbench 5 test is exactly what Apple says.
As for the metal benchmark, the “M2” chip scored 30,627, a significant improvement over the 21,001 score achieved by the “M1”. The M2 chips offer up to a 10-core GPU, compared to the M1’s maximum of 8.
The M2 chip is available in the new 2022 MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro. Apple hasn’t provided information on when the MacBook Air will launch, but the new MacBook Pro will be available for pre-order on Friday, June 17.
