The Golden State Warriors lost Game 1 of the NBA Finals in heartbreaking fashion, blowing a late fourth-quarter lead to the Boston Celtics who caught fire at just the right time. Despite Jayson Tatum’s 12 points on 3/17 shooting, Boston was able to get the upper hand behind the dominant performances of several key role players.
Al Horford led Boston with 26 points in 6/8, and his performance added Derrick White’s 21 and Jaylen Brown’s 24. With Tatum’s support lineup playing like this, his poor shooting night was overshadowed by a fiery comeback effort that gave Boston a Game 1 victory.
Warriors guard Klay Thompson, who was asked specifically about the team’s mentality after a game like this, said: “It’s never been fun and it’s painful. Obviously on the big stage. But like Draymond said , there’s no reason to panic. I like that our chances are still there. We’ll go home and digest what happened and I know we’ll be better in Game 2.”
With their ability to win on the road, the Warriors remain confident of a tough loss. This will require more consistent focus throughout the game, but the team believes they are capable of doing so.
While the loss hurt, the Golden State Warriors had some positives to build upon and go into the all-important Game 2.
