“Today, we are forced to file a lawsuit against Hailey Bieber and her new skincare line using the Rhodes brand that launched last week,” said the 9-year-old co-owner of the minority owner Lord Clothing Company wrote in a statement.
The co-owners said they “don’t want to sue,” but they must do so to prevent brand confusion.
Co-founders Purna Khatau and Phoebe Vickers, who filed the lawsuit June 21 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, particularly praised Bieber for creating his own skincare line.
“We don’t want to sue Hailey; we want to celebrate her. As businesswomen, we wish her all the best,” they said in a statement.
Bieber has yet to respond or publicly comment on the lawsuit, but a model-related source said both Hailey and the clothing company have trademarks for different types of businesses, meaning the clothing company may not have a basis to sue her.
