The 2022 US Open returns to Brookline Country Club in Brooklyn, Massachusetts, for the first time since 1988, with a field filled with 156 golfers vying for the top 60 spots to advance. 2011 US Open winner Rory McIlroy entered the weekend as the favorite after winning the RBC Canadian Open last weekend. McIlroy will have to conquer a tough field including defending champion John Ram, PGA Championship winner Justin Thomas and Masters winner Scotty Scheffler.

The bet chooses the value to win
Our betting experts give you choices to win based on value. We look at the bet board and tell you who has the best chance to cash your ticket.
Michael Collins, Senior Golf Analyst at ESPN
winner: Sam Burns (25-1)
Why would he win: Burns has racked up three wins already this season and is hot coming off his past three starts. At 25-1, it has a lot of value in a stacked field.
Anita Marks, ESPN Betting Analyst
winner: Songjae M (40-1)
Why would he win: Im plays well on the big stage (T-2 and T-8 in Masters, T-17 in the PGA Championship). He checks many boxes when considering the metrics needed to win at Brookline, where he ranks 29th in driving accuracy, seventh in the Greens in organization and third in scrambling this season.
David Berman, Deputy Sports Betting Editor, ESPN.com
winner: Justin Thomas (11-1)
Why would he win: Thomas put in another great performance last week in Canada with a 63-64 weekend to almost chase Rory McIlroy. He is third in a run from the tee to the green and shots are taken overall, sixth on approach and fourteenth on the tee. Thomas is arguably the hottest golfer on this round at the moment, passing the “second major” drought last month. Number 3 should be in the cards this weekend.
Chris Valica, ESPN Betting Analyst
winner: Dustin Johnson (40-1)
Why would he win: Johnson is a former US Open champion and has enjoyed five top six spots in seven years. This course will require a long, precise run on a tee, and that’s exactly what’s right up the DJ’s alley. It hasn’t had the best in years, but at this price, it’s totally worth playing.
Tyler Fulghum, ESPN Betting Analyst
winner: Xander Schuyle (22-1)
Why would he win: Schuyle has never won a major tournament but has always been in competition at the US Open. He has played the event five times in his career and has a T-5, T-6, T-3, 5 and T-7. Schauele always seems to give his best when conditions are more insidious and the field is deeper. It’s time for X-Man to break through with his first major win.
Joe Fortenbow, ESPN Betting Analyst
winner: Shane Lowry (35-1)
Why would he win: Lowry just produced a T-10 in Canada to line up with the T-3 Finals at both the Masters and RBC Heritage and take second place at the Honda Classic. He currently ranks 9th in the Earned Strokes Tour: Closer to the Green, an integral part of a track like Brookline with a green postage stamp.
Odds of winning the US Open 2022
props and more
Our betting experts have more than just bets to win. Here are some props to target for the entire event, from top 10 items to cuts for tournament matches.
Dustin Johnson 10th place (+400)
bear man: This pick isn’t about the LIV Tour, but it’s about getting a 4-1 out of the 10 former top-ranked players in the world, who has a solid resume to play well in the Northeast Tournaments. He has six top 10 titles at the US Open, including a win in 2016. He hasn’t been great this year at all, but if he brings his A game and plays golf with a chip on his shoulder, that could come in handy as well. 40-1 pay to win.
Colin Morikawa Top 10 (+175)
bear man: I will play with Morikawa to win and top 10 because he is arguably the number one striker for the ball in the round and that of course requires that kind of play. His struggle has always been the racket, but Morikawa has figured that out in the previous two majors. This course is specifically designed for the fifth player on the twenty-first approach to the tee, and the third part of the Grand Slam is not out of the question.
Bryson Deschamps is 5th (+800)
Collins: DeChambeau is surprisingly healthy and under the radar this week. This is a literal bet on “bang for the money”. He will try to do what he did at Winged Foot to win the US Open.
Playoff to determine the winner (+310)
Collins: Members of the media hate hearing the word playoff in golf, but this week has all the possibilities for a three-to-four-man playoff. It looks like a lot of players have reached their peak right now.
Xander Scholl in 10th place (+225)
Valika: While Schauffele did not pull off a major tournament win, he did excel in the US Open sessions. He has posted five Top 10 in each of his five appearances, with three in the top five. Schaule ranks seventh in hits earned: tee to green and ninth in hits earned: total. This all-around game should yield another strong weekend at the US Open.
Victor Hovland misses his story (+225)
Valika: Hovland hasn’t had a top 20 in the stroke play event since March and has never finished in the top 10 in the major. He’s also terrible about the green – ranked 204 in strokes gained around the green – and given the small size of these greens, it could get him in trouble this weekend.
Max Huma Top 20 (+160)
Signs: The first two wins in two rounds were in Grand Slam quality tournaments. T5 was at the memorial – needing only 99 strokes that week, and T-13 at the PGA Championship last month.
Adri Arnos is 40th in first place (2-1)
Signs: Arnos has a space to compete this week. He dominated the DP World Tour, earned a T-30 in the PGA Championship, and is the second best player from Spain, behind John Ram.
