Over the past two years, many of us have decided to welcome new puppies into our homes – dog ownership has soared by nearly 8%, according to The Kennel Club, and the popularity of four-legged friends following lockdown Demand remains high.
With as many as 221 different breeds of purebred dogs to choose from, as well as numerous crossbreeds, there’s a lot to consider before choosing the newest member of your family.
There’s even academic guidance to seek out, and psychologist Stanley Coren’s book, The Intelligence of Dogs, ranks breeds based on instinct, obedience and adaptability.
One thing to consider is that some dog breeds get along better with owners with certain personalities.
So if you’re a typical introvert who prefers to curl up at home with a good book rather than go out to parties, some dogs should be at the top of your canine wish list.
