They found out that she had diabetes, also known as canine diabetes, which means her body had problems controlling her blood sugar.
A spokesperson for Human Society said: “This can be an expensive disease requiring monthly purchases of insulin and possibly other medical supplies.
“In total, this can cost hundreds of dollars a month, depending on your own veterinarian’s assessment and the cost of supplies in your area.”
They explained the owner’s decision to give up the pet was an “act of desperation” and they thanked her for reaching out and trying to make her dog the best it can be.
In a message to the former boss, a spokeswoman said: “First of all, we are sorry you had to be separated from your best friend.
“It’s obvious how much you love her and we can see that you’re doing the best you can while battling your own medical complications and life challenges.
“We saw your love in the bag you carefully filled with all her favorite things.
