Cheer star dies of cancer at 71

Kirstie Alley, star cheers and Fallen Gorgeous, already dead. She is 71 years old.

Alley’s children True and Lillie Parker announced the actress died of cancer. In a statement to PEOPLE, True and Lillie confirmed that Alley died on Monday.

“We regret to inform you that our incredible, fierce and loving mother has passed away after battling cancer, which was only recently discovered,” they said in a statement.

“She is surrounded by her closest family and fights with might, reassuring us that the joys of her life will never end, no matter what adventures lie ahead,” they continued. “As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother.”

Siblings remember their mother’s “zeal and zest for life, her children, grandchildren and her many animals, not to mention her undying joy of creating, is unparalleled and inspires us to enjoy life as much as she did .”

They also thanked the “incredible team of doctors and nurses” at Moffitt Cancer Center.

The statement ended with True and Lillie thanking Alley’s fans and sharing, “We appreciate your love and prayers and ask that you respect our privacy during this difficult time.”

The statement was also shared on Alley’s Instagram page.

Following the news, Ally’s friend and former partner John Travolta paid tribute to the actress on social media.

“Kirstie was one of the most special relationships I’ve ever had. I love you Kirstie,” he shared alongside a photo of the late star. “I know we’ll meet again.”

Valerie Bertinelli also tweeted her condolences, writing: “oh kirsty rest in peace

Alley’s last Instagram video was posted in September, when she announced she was joining Cameo, a platform fans can use to request “funny or sincere” messages from her. Her Cameo page has been deleted.

In 2010, her life was documented on the A&E reality show The big life of Kirstie Alley. She also competed in season 12 dancing with the stars In 2011 and Season 7 masked singer 2022.

In recent years, Elle has come under fire from those who believe she has made controversial political statements, particularly about the January 6, 2001 uprising and the war in Ukraine.
